Generally speaking, inflammation is a reaction of the body's own immune system to a stimulus. Signs of this can include, for example, skin redness, pain, warmth, or swelling. If the inflammation becomes very severe, it can affect the entire body. Many different immune cells can be involved in inflammation. They release tissue hormones that dilate small blood vessels in the tissue, allowing more blood to reach the inflamed area. This transports more immune cells to the site, and so on. The body's normal functions for fighting inflammation can be supported. Chronic inflammation is also a trigger factor for malignancies.
