Our Eichhase extract is therefore obtained exclusively from the entire fruiting body of the mushroom, including the stems.

The umbellate polypore (Polyporus umbellatus) prefers to grow in warmer deciduous forests, especially on the stumps or roots of oak and beech trees. This rare but popular edible mushroom forms dense clusters of up to 100 stalked, round caps. These clusters can reach diameters of up to 50 cm and weigh several kilograms. The appearance of these clusters has given the mushroom the name "oak hare," as a polypore growing on the roots can indeed resemble a hare sitting at the base of an oak tree.

The individual stems converge in a common stalk, which emerges from a dark brown sclerotium (a specialized fungal organ that ensures overwintering) located just below the soil surface/in the tree stump. Polyporus is said to be able to survive in a tree stump for up to 30 years. The fruiting bodies are primarily eaten, while the sclerotium is mainly used for medicinal purposes.
